Children’s activities Summer 2019

The summer holidays are looming and you’ll be thinking about ways to get your children away from their screens. In the UK children will be getting active with National Bike to School Week, National Go Canoeing, National Walking Month and summer courses aplenty over the coming months. There is also the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for those who want to explore new territories and really push themselves physically. On the DofE 14 – 24 year olds can plan an expedition of their choice lasting 2 – 4 days. However, we thought we’d look further afield for a course of fresh air, activity and wellbeing for the average whizz kid.

Summer Courses in Switzerland

According to Legatum Institute, an independent educational charity based in London, Switzerland is no 4 in the 25 richest, healthiest and happiest countries in the world and 3rd in the health sub-index. So we thought we’d look at a stand-out camp called Summer Camp Montana, based in health and sports resort Crans-Montana in the heart of the Alps. Crans-Montana, known as the ‘Sun Terrace of Switzerland,’ is located on a sun-drenched plateau high above the vineyards and orchards of the Rhone Valley, surrounded by pine forests and stunning snow-capped mountains.

The philosophy of the camp is to provide an outdoor and healthy living experience through sport, activity and learning. Through their wide range of activities, the campers are enriched in mind, body and spirit. The programs that focus on personal and group growth, are both enjoyable and challenging. The children come from many different cultures and represent 50+ nations. English is the main language with French, Italian, Spanish and German also in the mix.

The activities include:

– Aquatic
– Arts
– Ball Sports
– Riding
– Recreational (Archery, Fitness, Mountain Biking etc)
– Evening Activities (Camp Fires, Discos, Movies etc)
– Excursions
– Fun Forest Ropes Courses

Downtime..

And if your child is worried about keeping up during this experience, they’ll be glad to hear that the Swiss are among the world’s largest consumers of chocolate!
