A #throwbackthursday tour of Taunton School in the heart of Somerset today. We were given a warm welcome as we arrived, followed by an extensive tour of all the newly developed facilities and Sixth Form Centre. Taunton School takes ages 0-18 and offers generous financial support to military families.
Many parents of their children are serving in the Armed Forces. In the Prep School, around 80% of their boarders have at least one serving parent. The school has great pastoral care and is known for creating a real home from home experience for all its pupils. Regular updates about the children are provided by the House parents to families and the children are encouraged to regularly contact home. The children’s happiness is first and foremost.
It has first-class sporting facilities, offers 4 curriculums: A Levels, IB, Btec and Foundation. Extensive co-curricular options include CCF, Duke of Edinburgh, music, dance and drama. We were lucky enough to be taken around the children’s social space where they hang out and to see the new contemporary dining hall.
Other exciting developments recently completed include a modern library and Sixth Form Centre that were opened in 2022; the décor of the Sixth Form Centre was designed with the help of Year 11 and 12 students! Also in 2023 a new Multiple Use Games Area was created, ensuring an excellent all year surface for cricket practice and other sports.
